Swept Surface in SolidWorks

This tutorials shows you how to create a swept surface using the swept surface tool. This tool is similar to the swept boss/base tool in SolidWorks. To create a swept surface you have to create a open / close profile and a curve to sweep the created profile. For the sake of this tutorial we create a line of 10mm in front plane as shown.

Now exit the sketch. Create another vertical line with 10 mm in length and and arc of 5 mm radius in the top plane as shown. The end of vertical line must be coincident with the mid point of the horizontal line.

Now go to the surfaces tab and click on swept surface tool.

Select the first sketch as the profile to sweep and the second sketch as the path.

Click ok to see the swept surface…

You can also twist the surface during sweep. Click on options button and select twist along the path and enter 90 degrees in angle. You will see the twisted swept surface as shown.

Click ok to see the final twisted swept surface
