Mirror Entities in Solidworks

0 votes, 0.00 avg. rating (0% score)

Mirror Entities in solidworks is used to replicate / mirror any features or parts / bodies w.r.t to a plane / face of a part. To demonstrate how to use this feature create a box of 10x10x5 at a distance of 30 mm from the origin on top plane as shown.

Revolve Surface in SolidWorks

0 votes, 0.00 avg. rating (0% score)

This tool is similar to revolved boss / base tool in SolidWorks. here we revolve a open / closed profile w.r.t an axis. To demonstrate how to to use this, create a line of 10mm in length and 20 mm away from the origin on front plane as shown.

Extruded Surface in SolidWorks

2 votes, 2.50 avg. rating (60% score)

This tutorial is about extruded surface feature in SolidWorks. This tool is similar to extrude feature in part modeling. The main difference between both is that we are going to draw a surface instead of a part / body. Also the profile can be open / closed. If you extrude a circle with extrude feature in part modeling you will get a cylinder, but here you will get a cylindrical surface. You can just draw a line and extrude to produce a rectangular surface.

How to Draw a hyperbola

0 votes, 0.00 avg. rating (0% score)

This is curious, case where there is not standard tool in solid works to draw the hyperbola.

To get the sketch of hyperbola we create a surface of the cone using revolved surface & a plane surface and create a sketch of hyperbola along the intersecting surfaces.

First open a new part and draw the sketch as shown in figure

Lofted Cut in SolidWorks

0 votes, 0.00 avg. rating (0% score)

Like loft which fills materials across profiles in different planes, lofted cut is used to remove material across profiles.

For starters let create a cylinder of 80mm in dia and 50 mm in length. You have to use extrude to create one and use Mid-plane option while extruding so that it will be extruded evenly on both sides.

Fillet Feature in SolidWorks

0 votes, 0.00 avg. rating (0% score)

Fillet is another basic features used in part modeling. Fillet is similar to chamfer except it is use to round the edges / corners. In engineering fillet is use for avoiding stress concentration or to facilitate smother  flow of stress in a body.

Lets start with sketching the follow u bracket

Chamfer feature in SolidWorks

1 vote, 5.00 avg. rating (90% score)

This is again one of the basic feature and frequently used feature in creation of parts in solidworks. To demonstrate how to use the chamfer tool in SolidWorks we will extrude a part and them apply chamfer on one of its edges. Chamfer in general is used to remove material so as to smoothen or eliminate sharp corners in parts.
